ESL Transition Program Questions

Student Welfare

Are students met at the airport?

Yes. We will arrange to have CEPAS students picked up from Orlando or Tampa airport providing the CEPAS Director knows the student's arrival information at least one week in advance.

Are there any other special arrangements made for CEPAS students?

During orientation, we take them shopping for food and household supplies such as bedding. That's generally the first day of the semester.

Won't CEPAS students with a low level of English experience communication problems at the start?

Care will be taken to ensure students' initial communication problems don't affect their quality of living. Students starting at L3 should already have enough skills to make basic requests and the campus staff are all very friendly, patient and welcoming of international students whatever their English level. However, don't forget this is a reason for choosing CEPAS - the English environment gives students no choice but to learn English. It is true that students might not find it easy at the very beginning, but should find their feet reasonably quickly.

Do CEPAS students have a guide/mentor?

The CEPAS professors are guides/mentors! Since class size is very small, and the course is run with a very close community spirit, each professor is able to spend considerable time with each student individually. Professors will quickly become aware of and resolve any problems CEPAS students may be having.

Is there a student counselor available on campus?

Yes. Student Solutions provides academic counseling, and there is also psychological counseling available in addition to the support of CEPAS instructors. In general, CEPAS instructors are in the best position to help a student who is having problems.

How safe is the FSC campus?

FSC has a very safe and relaxed campus. There is a constant presence of safety personnel on campus. They are on foot and drive around in golf carts.
