Environment

How big is the campus?

The campus comprises some 60 buildings on 100 acres of land. The total student population is approximately 1800 students.

What facilities/entertainment is available on campus?

The FSC campus has a broad range of facilities and entertainment. Some of the larger ones are listed below.

Facilities:

  • Career Center - assists students with their career plans
  • Health Center - medical assistance
  • Life and Cultural Center - provides programs for community and cultural education
  • Wellness Center - sports and recreation

Is there a college restaurant?

Yes, Wynee's Bistro is a very good campus restaurant serving a variety of well-rounded dishes. Also:

  • Terrace Café for sandwiches, soups and snacks
  • Moc Mart for smoothies and snacks
  • Tu Tu's Cybercafe for web-surfing, coffee, tea sodas, and sandwiches
  • Grill Master for outdoor BBQ lunch
How far is it to the nearest downtown area and what transport available?

Approximately 2 kilometers to downtown proper. There is a bus service called Citrus Connection that serves most of the Lakeland metropolitan area.

Do most students have cars?

Many of the local students do have their own cars. International students should find that, once they develop a friends base in FSC, local residents are usually quite obliging in offering lifts.

What sports are popular on campus?

Baseball, basketball, running, golf. Lacrosse, Soccer, Swimming, Tennis, Waterskiing to name a few. Please see www.fscmocs.com for more information.

What sports team does FSC have? Can an international student participate?

FSC has intercollegiate men's teams in baseball, basketball, cross country/track, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis and water skiing and women's teams in basketball, cross country/track, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, volleyball and water skiing International students are welcome to try-out for any of these teams once they are enrolled in a degree program full-time. During the ESL Transition program they cannot compete in intercollegiate matches, but depending on their skill level and the coach's decision, they might be able to practice with the teams.

Campus culture - popular pastimes - what do people do in the evenings - are they hardworking/sociable/businesslike etc?

Outside of the numerous student activities, students generally study pretty hard, and this is certainly true of students in the ESL Transition Program.

How do people dress?

There is no dress code at FSC and people are free to dress as they please. Most people dress casually. All cultures and religions are welcomed at FSC and students can expect no criticism if they dress a little unusually.
