How many hours tuition/homework per week?

Each week involves 20 hours in the classroom, 5 hours directed study and 5 hours homework.

Is the format of all classes the same or do they vary in any way?

We feature an integrated curriculum in which reading, writing, listening, and speaking are taught around themes. For example, a unit on the syllabus might be on health, meaning that all reading, writing, listening and speaking activities are focused on that theme. The format in which that theme is taught really depends on the teacher.

Is there a set curriculum?

Yes there is a curriculum. The curriculum is based around themes, e.g. health issues.

Who are the teachers? Do they only teach CEPAS or do they teach other courses too?

Currently, CEPAS employs a full-time Director, who also teaches in the program, as well as two teachers. The teachers all have a minimum of an MA in TESOL or closely-related field and two years of full-time teaching experience. Currently teachers teach exclusively at CEPAS.

How accessible are the teachers outside tuition time?

Very accessible, either online or in person.

Are there any special tasks such as end-of-semester assignments?

Students are required to prepare a final project at the end of each seven-week session. At the end of this semester students wrote a 1,500 word essay and delivered a 30-minute presentation centered on their project. Students are encouraged to choose a topic for their project that suits their individual interests.

Are students required to perform presentations?

Yes. At least 4 times per semester.

How many essays are students required to write per semester?

In addition to the final project essay, students are required to write approximately 7 or 8 writing assignments throughout the semester. These range from short summaries to longer essays. The writing tasks become longer and more academically focused in levels 5 and 6, which form the Skills for Academic Success component of the curriculum.

Are there any group activities - outings etc?

We really stress integration through our Campus Connection and Community Connection programs. See brochure for more info.
