ESL Transition Program Questions

Assessment for the Undergraduate Program

How do you assess if a student is ready to start their undergraduate degree?

Successful completion of the ESL Transition Program requires that students attend class regularly, complete all assignments on time, and pass the exit exam, which consists of 500 questions, two writing exams, a 30-minute presentation, 1,500 word essay, and a 30-minute oral interview. Passing score on this exam must be 80% or higher.

Are there different CEPAS level requirements in the assessment for different subjects?

No. All undergraduate programs have the same English requirements. While FSC will accept students into full-time degree study from outside the institution with a TOEFL 550/79 or IELTS 6.5 for entrance, FSC and CEPAS are convinced that students who enter the ESL Transition program and remain through Level 6 will succeed much better in their degree programs.

If students don't pass in anticipated time, are they required to pay for another semester?

Generally, care is taken to ensure students entering CEPAS reach a satisfactory level in the required time. Students receive sufficient attention on a one-on-one basis for the teacher to catch potential problems before they arise and for the student to catch up if he/she is falling behind. In the worst case a student may be advised to add and pay for an additional semester or enroll in one or both of the six-week summer terms.
